Engaged Scholarship at Lehman College

The Lehman College Adult Learning Center (ALC) has been one of the leading adult education programs in New York City. Every year, we provide approximately 600 adults, primarily from the Bronx, with free classes in Basic Education (BE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), TASC™/High School Equivalency (HSE) Test Preparation, and College Transition.

The facility is available free of charge to all Lehman students currently registered in academic programs. In addition, all CUNY students, faculty, staff, alumni, and facility members with valid and current ID cards are eligible to become members of the facility. Memberships are also available to Bronx-area residents, institutions, and community groups, Lehman College business and educational partnerships, and the general public.

Lehman College Art Gallery offers a variety of programs for children, teachers, and families. Located in a spectacular building designed by renowned architect Marcel Breuer, the gallery’s exhibitions and workshops provide an introduction to art.

College Now is a collaborative program between the City University of New York (CUNY) and the New York City Department of Education (DOE).

Lehman Community Connect provides a new, map-based platform to find, view and interact with publicly available data and Lehman College information. Our goal is to enable students, faculty, researchers and the public to participate in their community by facilitating inquiry, exploration, and the development of creative applications.

Lehman Stages is a professional arts component of Lehman College. We manage and develop specific performance facilities operating under the auspices of the Division of Administration and Finance. We provide rehearsal, performance and conference space for arts, civic and government organizations throughout New York City and beyond. We create original cultural programming and initiatives that benefit the students of Lehman College and the Bronx community, and we provide comprehensive production services to our vital Music, Multimedia, Theatre and Dance Department here at Lehman.

Our office aims to educate members of the Lehman campus community on the importance of responsible citizenship through new student orientation, community development programs, service efforts, practical application of knowledge, and an awareness of global issues impacting local communities.

Offering leadership and support, the Professional Development Network (PDN) responds to the professional development needs of our students, our alumni, and the educators in the communities we serve. Our partners include more than 200 schools and organizations in and around New York City.

New York State residents 60 years and older as of the first day of classes are permitted to enroll as auditors in Lehman College undergraduate courses on a space-available basis, tuition-free.

A unique and highly regarded graduate teaching facility, The Speech and Hearing Center at Lehman College provides state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals in the NYC Metropolitan area and to members of the Lehman community who have speech, language, hearing, feeding, and swallowing deficits.
