Information about accessing library services and materials from off campus


Leonard Lief Library 

COVID-19 Services and Response

While the College is closed - Leonard Lief Library offers a variety of services for student use.  Resources such as articles from databases, eBooks, and streaming videos can be accessed from off-campus.  Library faculty are working offsite and can be reached through 24/7 Chat or by calling and leaving a message at 718-960-7765.

In addition, Lehman College is providing updates about changes to campus programs and services at Lehman students can also  apply to the CUNY Chancellor's Emergency Relief Fund and the Lehman Cares Emergency Fund. Virtual counseling services for students are available through our Counseling Center, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. E-mail: or call: 718-960-8761 to schedule an appointment.


Building Hours

In the interest of our community's health and safety - NO ONE will be permitted on the Lehman College campus without a scheduled appointment, except for assigned, essential staff.

As such - the Library building will remain closed until further notice.

ID Activation - Accessing Databases/Articles/Journals From Off Campus

Lehman students, faculty, and staff should make sure their ID cards are activated.  Patrons can check whether their ID is active by logging into your library account.

If this login does not work - please fill out this form and a library staff member will follow up to activate your access. 


Previously Borrowed Books and Equipment

Books and other materials currently borrowed will renew automatically.  In addition - all CUNY students, faculty, and staff will have up to 9 additional renewals. 



Fines will not accumulate while the Library is closed.

Books on Reserve

While the Building is closed - Reserve Books cannot be physically accessed.  Some faculty have reported receiving electronic copies from textbook publishers.  Faculty are encouraged to adopt Open Educational Resources for required readings.

OER LibGuide


E-Reserves functionality remains available.  Faculty and staff can electronically send materials to be added to E-Reserve to Angelina Brea.  In addition - documents and videos can often be uploaded and shared via services like Blackboard, Office 365 OneDrive, Dropbox, and many other tools.

Interlibrary Loan

Requests made to obtain materials from other CUNY libraries will not be possible for as long as the Library is closed.  Interlibrary Loan book requests via ILLiad will be processed when the Library building reopens.  In the meantime - articles can still be requested.

For patrons who have borrowed ILL books before the library closed -- the lending libraries understand that this is a national crisis and they also are being affected.  Please keep the book safe until the crisis is over and we will send ILL items back as soon as we can.

24/7 Chat Reference Service

Students can ask librarians questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via our chat service.

Reference Phone Service

Students, faculty, and staff can leave voicemails for library faculty at 718-960-7765.

Information Literacy Instruction

Library faculty can provide Information Literacy instruction online.  Request a class if you would like to explore that option for your students.  Previously scheduled classes will still occur virtually - and faculty members can continue to request Instruction sessions for their classes.

Laptop Computers and iPads

Information Technology has purchased Chromebooks and iPads that students without access to  a computer can borrow. Please fill out this form to request a laptop and yl\ou will be contacted by the Office of Campus Life to arrange pickup from campus.

Families with children in the public schools may also be able to apply for a DOE iPad.

Internet-WiFi Access

There are many hotspots with free broadband available throughout the City.
