Advanced Search What am I searching?

Searching Tips

To find books on a given topic, search by keyword.  (If you have a specific title or author you're looking for, you can search those fields in particular.)

For example, if you're searching for a book on affirmative action, select Keyword anywhere from the drop-down menu above, type affirmative action into the textbox, and hit "Search":

From the list of results, click on a title that looks interesting to you.

When you find a book that you think would be good for your paper, click on Lehman College under the "Holdings" heading (or to the right of "Call Number"). This will show you where the book is located in the library:

Write down the location and call number. Pay attention to the due date: if it says Look On Shelf, it is available; if it lists a date, it's checked out. With the location and call number in hand, use the "Book Locations" guide at the top of this page to find the book in the library.

You may come across a book whose format is Electronic Resource. The holdings page for an e-book looks slightly different:

To view the book, you have to click on the link to the right of the "URL" field. These kinds of books must be viewed online and cannot be downloaded. The good news is that they can be viewed from home! All you need is your LDAP username and password.

Using CLICS

Books that are not available in the Lehman library can be requested from another CUNY school. This service is called CLICS (CUNY Libraries Inter Campus Service). The video below will explain how to use it to have books sent to this library for you to pick up.
